Talk about stingy.

Chenango Valley scored three batters into Friday's Southern Tier Athletic Conference softball game against visiting Oneonta and ended up with a 1-0 victory.

"That's as good as a loss I think we can have," said OHS coach Randy Brockway, whose 2009 season ended with an 8-0 sectional semifinal loss to CV. "They've had their way with us the last couple years."

Losing pitcher Lesley Harlem allowed a leadoff single to Meghan Lewis, whose hard shot down the third-base line was knocked down by Sienna Wisse. Caitlin Roberts followed with a sacrifice bunt before Mikala King doubled Lewis home.

"They jumped on us real early and got that first run in," Brockway said.

Harlem struck out six, walked four and yielded two hits the rest of the game against the Warriors, who reached the Class B state semifinals last season.

Taylor Hendrickson, who backed up Division I pitcher Danielle Koltz (Marist) last season, struck out 13 and walked none in a three-hitter for CV.

Oneonta freshman Hayley Dower broke up Hendrickson's perfect game with a leadoff single in the third inning.

She also singled to start the sixth, when Katie Bredin singled with two out to give OHS runners at first and second. Brianna Haines grounded into a fielder's choice to end the inning.

"We pressured them in the sixth late when we wanted to," Brockway said. "We just couldn't produce that run."

Oneonta (2-1, 1-1) hosts a non-league game against Cobleskill at 2 p.m. Saturday.
