Taylor Hendrickson and Caitlin Roberts named Week 9 Player of the Week

Posted Saturday, June 05, 2010 by Larry Hendrickson
In the Section 4 quarter-final game vs. Owego on Tuesday, Taylor Hendrickson (Junior/ Pitcher) pitched a complete game shutout. In that game she gave up just 3 hits and 1 walk while racking up 9 strikeouts. At the plate she went 3 for 3 with a walk and 3 RBI, hitting 2 singles and a triple. In the Section 4 semi-final game vs. Susquehanna Valley, Taylor gave up just 1 run in another complete game pitching performance. She gave up 5 hits and 1 walk in the game while striking out 8 batters. In the section 4 championship game she pitched all 8 innings of the extra inning game. Against a Windsor team that had 3 batters batting over .400 on the year and 5 batters batting .333 or better on the year, she gave up only 4 hits in the 8 innings along with 1 walk and 6 strikeouts. This was her second shutout of the week.

Caitlin Roberts (Senior/ Third base) scored a run in the quarter-final game vs. Owego. She also scored a run off a hit in the semi-final game vs. Susquehanna Valley. But the run that mattered most during the week was the run that she scored in the top of the eighth inning in the Section 4 Championship Game on Saturday. Caitlin walked twice during that game. Her second walk came with 1 out and a runner on first. A fielder's choice put her at second when the defense took the second out of the inning at third. After a double steal she was standing on third. Then she saw a wild pitch, reacted immediately and with her speed was able to beat the throw to the plate to score what was the winning run.
